david on Nostr: The WoT Score, as currently implemented at coracle, wikifreedia and a few other ...
The WoT Score, as currently implemented at coracle, wikifreedia and a few other places, is revolutionary in two ways:
1. It eliminates almost all bots and spam. Twitter never managed to do this.
2. Trust scores are calculated from the perspective of each user, not kept constant throughout the platform. IOW scores are local, not global. This empowers the individual user.
I think there are two reasons Twitter never implemented this.
1. The WoT Score throws out the baby with the bathwater; users who are new to nostr get a low score unless and until they grind up their follower count.
2. Large tech platforms have little incentive to empower individual users, bc it comes at the expense of their centralized control.
Regarding point 1, what we need is a method to calculate trust scores that does not scale linearly with follower count. It needs to max out at some point. It’s a relatively simple problem with a relatively simple fix.
