why not use the original buck-boost 5V you were going to use? Too small being a fucking tiny SMT component?
I’d probably pair a 5V buck-boost with a chonky 3.3V LDO (eg AMS1117-33), then you get some experience with switching supplies. Take a look at the TI power designer tool for some inspiration too.
