seems a lot of the people who knew him said he was fairly average, a lot were shocked, but some weren't surprised. his brother and other family commented that they had no idea why he did this. he didn't have a criminal record, even traffic stops.

"Eric Paddock said he knew of five guns his brother kept in his safe but was shocked that a rapid-fire weapon was used in Sunday’s shooting. He said Stephen Paddock didn’t hunt and barely shot his guns, once taking Eric’s children on a skeet-shooting trip paid for by the casinos."

> "We know nothing. If you told me an asteroid fell it would mean the same to me. There's absolutely no sense, no reason he did this," said his brother Eric Paddock. "He's just a guy who played video poker and took cruises and ate burritos at Taco Bell. There's no political affiliation that we know of. There's no religious affiliation that we know of."

> "Before Monday, Paddock had been a nonentity to local police. “We didn’t have prior run-ins with him, we didn’t have any traffic stops, we didn’t have any arrests of any kind,” Mesquite Police Officer Quinn Averett said. “It’s a newer home, a newer subdivision, a nice clean home, nothing out of the ordinary.”

> “He was always normal,” said Donald Judy, a former next-door neighbor who said he was struggling to reconcile the friendly conversations about real estate and family with carnage carried out from a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

> Paddock’s former brother-in-law, Scott Brunoehler, recalled the gunman in the 1970s and 1980s as a smart, fun-loving person who enjoyed entertaining on his boat at Castaic Lake and Buena Vista Lake in Kern County.
