The Warburg effect is very interesting… been learning about it a bit lately.
3 Forms of Cellular Energy:
-Glucose
-Free fatty acids
-Ketones
All 3 can be tunneled to the mitochondria & turned into ATP through oxidation. 🦠
Although, glucose has two forks it can go down… one path is the Warburg effect (aerobic glycolysis), and the other path is anerobic glycolysis.
The Warburg effect leads to tons of lactate — it’s what is seen in many types of cancer cells. The lactate is acidic, and it suppresses many immune mediators in the environment nearby the cancer cell.
