February 1288, Stary Sacz, Poland

In November of 1287 Talabuga Khan(a direct descendant of Genghis Khan) leader of the Golden Horde Mongols gathered a horde of around 40k men with the intent of raiding the Kingdom of Poland. The horde was divided into two groups of 20k with one led by Talabuga Khan and the other one led by Nogai Khan, who was Talabuga's subordinate. The plan was to plunder the Polish countryside then the two groups would meet then attack the city of Krakow, which was the capital of the kingdom. But as this was the third time the Mongols had raided Poland the Poles were prepared as they had constructed many forts and castles as well upgraded the walls around towns and cities from wood to stone. In December of 1287 Talabuga Khan entered Poland with his horde from the north and Nogai Khan entered from the south.

Talabuga attacked the city of Sandomierz, but lacking siege equipment was driven off by the Polish after a while. Talabuga took his horde and moved on until he reached the town of Lagow, where he encountered a Polish army of 15k led by Grand Duke of Poland Leszek II the Black. Leszek defeated Talabuga in the Battle of Lagow and Talabuga withdrew to Golden Horde territory. Leszek then marched his army to Krakow and prepared the city for an attack. On December 23rd of 1287 Nogai attacked the city of Krakow, but was driven off after a few days with heavy loss and due to the lack of siege equipment. Nogai's horde then took to plundering the Polish countryside after the loss at Krakow. Leszek the decided to head to the Kingdom of Hungary to ask for aide against the Mongols.

Leszek met with Hungarian King Ladislaus IV and ended-up creating an ethnic friendship and co-operation between the Poles and Hungarians that would last for centuries. Ladislaus sent a Hungarian army of around 15k men under Hungarian noble György(George) of Sóvár to aide the Poles. As the Hungarians marched into Poland many Poles joined them, wanting to expel the Mongols from their home. Leszek and György joined forces by the Polish town of Stary Sacz and attacked the Mongols there inflicting many losses on the Mongols. Many more Mongols also deserted Nogai's horde as they were more interested in easy plunder, than a fight against a determined opponent. Nogai ordered a withdrawal as his horde was collapsing. The Third Mongol raid on Poland would be one of the last Mongol raids on Europe as sometime after the raid ended tensions between Talabuga and Nogai caused a civil war in the Golden Horde and caused the collapse of the Golden Horde Empire.

(I couldn't find any artwork for this so here's some Teutonic Knights and Mongols fighting instead)
