tensions come not so much from competition as from difference in understanding ( and from mental illness / religion ). people who can understand each other's positions can work out an agreement, even if competitors.
republican and democrat voters fight not so much because they are on opposites sides, but because they can't understand they are on the same side.
the elites, are not as dumb, and thus there is relatively little reason for them to fight.
even if we look at war in Ukraine we don't see Putin and Zelenskiy in a UFC cage fighting each other. they're both living comfortably while Americans pay Russian and Ukrainian peasants to kill each other. i do not know whether exterminating Russian and Ukrainian populations is the goal ( it might be ) but in the grand scheme of things none of these conflicts change anything.
the word is still marching towards the Brave New World as laid out by Huxley almost 100 years ago.
