Astronomers have discovered many free-floating rogue planets in the Milky Way, planets without a star. Did they form like mini-stellar systems, or were they kicked out? Researchers think they've got a way to find out where they're coming from. It all comes down to their velocity. If rogue planets are kicked out of star systems, they'll have higher velocities than those formed within a nebula.
