Someone just pointed out that Twitter will give blue vanity ticks for free in the event the account is followed by at least 2,500 other blue tick accounts. So, I may have misspoke in saying Signal and Meredith pay directly. That said, if they're getting the tick for free, that means they're undoubtedly providing financial support in the form of content that motivates others to pay.
