opinion: it would be better if the outbox model was implemented on relays rather than clients
the client could ask the user’s relay to fetch notes from certain other relays, and the relay can employ stuff like local caches and deduplication to reduce bandwidth usage on the client
clients can still have the option to connect directly, but if clients start connecting to thousands of relays, that will rack up quickly to tens of GB per day
if your current relays restrict you, then switch to another relay or directly connect
