Snyder, like most US liberals, is a monist. So everything that's not monism is dualism and sides with The Other. The problem with The Other being the way it stubbornly prefers dualism, and resists assimilation into the monist unity.
Dualism has the opposite problem, insisting on Them and Us separations, and characterising all monism as totalitarianism. Most US conservatives are dualists.
