The Ruble almost certainly does not make it out of the post-soviet collapse. It would have been replaced by Bitcoin. As a result in the early 2000s Russia would be exporting Oil for Bitcoin. Maybe sparking off other OPEC nations to do the same?
It's interesting to think about what would have happened if Bitcoin had been mature during the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997. Lots of Emerging Market currencies like the Thai Baht got devalued by 30-40% or more, they'd probably have been demonetized if flight to Bitcoin was an option.
