Value is subjective. There are no irrational or wrong ways to use bitcoin.
If people desire digital collectibles as the global power structure tightens its grip on humanity, then that's on them so long as they're willing to pay the price (and I suspect in more than one way, over the long term).
That being said, ordinals are not great for *my* ends. I don't care how neat it is that there's a Doom clone on bitcoin. I'm not in it for the tech, I'm in it for the liberty.
HOWEVER
If there's a use for ordinals that pushes liberty in a positive direction, then that would align with my ends. For instance, ODELL (npub1qny…95gx) posted a note yesterday saying someone inscribed the Yankee Boogle auto sear CAD file. It's a simple 3d printable drop-in part that'll make your AR style firearm shoot funny. Now those plans are forever accessible to anyone and that's pretty amazing.
Need to think about this more but for now we're gonna have to deal with lots of low effort grift. The worst thing we can do is immediately react via some change to bitcoin or have nodes start censoring.
Bitcoin will persist. After all, if bitcoin can't survive jpegs then it certainly can't survive a state level attack, and therefore isn't fit to exist.
