The decades of impunity and unconditional western support of Israel continues today as Israel is waging its genocidal war in #Gaza.
On June 5, 1967, Israel launched a preemptive strike against Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria. After knocking out the air defenses of these countries, Israel occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, as well as Syria’s Golan Heights and Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
Israel displaced over 300,000 Palestinians, added to the hundreds of thousands of refugees displaced in 1948 when their homes and villages were razed to the ground by Zionist militias.
During the Naksa, around half of the refugees were being displaced for the second time in less than 20 years. Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestine was ongoing, as it is to this day.
As soon as Israel gained control of the Jerusalem area, it evacuated the Palestinian residents of the ancient al-Magharbeh quarter in the Old City and demolished all of their houses, leaving them homeless.
Similarly, 4,000 Palestinians were evicted from the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem, but the houses were not demolished as the displaced Palestinians were replaced by Jewish settlers.
Within 20 years of the UN's partition of Palestine, Israel expanded its occupation to the West Bank and Gaza. Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza were subjected to a brutal Israeli military occupation as well as the activities of armed, right-wing Jewish settlers.
Israel’s already repressive military rule over Palestinians living within its 1948 borders was transferred to the West Bank and Gaza.
An apparatus of control and domination including checkpoints, permits and home demolitions, was imposed on the lives of millions of Palestinians.
On this day every year, Jewish settlers march across occupied Jerusalem, celebrating the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from the city, attacking the Palestinians still living there, and singing racist songs calling for death to Arabs.
