I stopped using Google Maps full stop over the past year or so after getting burned one too many times by getting served routes that were logistical nightmares.
I'm now relying more on a combination of #OpenStreetMap supported maps, such as Apple Maps, and my own navigational skills to plot out routes, increasingly using the atlas in my pocket as just that - digital maps that I then transcribe into useful routes myself.
It doesn't have to be this way.
