I recently read the book I Will Bear Witness: A Diary of the Nazi Years, 1933-1941 , Victor Klemperer. He was a Jewish professor in the Nazi era, while the pressure was being ratcheted up on Jews. Very, very interesting, very frightening. He was somewhat protected because he was married to an Aryan wife, but still the step-by-step issuance of decrees restricting more and more rights - chilling. First - can't teach Aryan students, then can't teach, then later on can't own a car, or a pet, can't walk through a park, on and on.
