You should pay because this is a service being provided to you. No-one expects their ISP to give them free internet, well nostr is your new internet so don’t expect it to be free.

The benefit is next to no spam on there. Nostr is easy to spam but the spammers aren’t going to pay to have their crap read - put YOURSELF behind a pay wall so they can’t access you.
