Some products are amazing but difficult to understand and to select the more appropriate one for the use case/person.
Also some products are difficults to try or test, so the customer must mostly trust marketing to choose it.
I could find example both in B2B and B2C but that's right, it's mostly an exception and 9 times on 10 marketing is here to fill the gap when the product is not as amazing as it could be that users advertise it themself.
