You start by buing a mushroom collectors book and learning the most basic (and plentiful) food mushrooms. Then just go to forest and find even one edible one. Then just as you find any new mushroom from forest, find out what it is a and how edible it is.
There are even apps that can guess the mushroom from camera (or simply use google lens).

I started collecting these just this fall and have been totally hooked up. Super useful thing to know, and makes some really delicous foods possible. You'll soon start to notice the mushrooms completely different way.
