For smaller amounts, the mining fees are disproportionately high simply due to the complexity (thus block space) of a conjoin transaction. It’d be the same fee for 0.0001 BTC as it’d be for 10 BTC. You can set a lower base fee (with variance) or specify a higher block target to mitigate these effects but you may have to wait longer.

It’s the maker fees that could increase with the amount of BTC - though it depends on how the makers whose bids you accept have set their fee structure. In this case you can set upper bounds per collaborator for absolute fees and percent fees. That said, there are usually lots of very reasonable offers on the table.

I like it because you have so much control over what you pay and how many utxos you wind up with.

However, JoinMarket has a serious learning curve. It’s really important to understand the documentation before using it…and the docs are pretty bare bones. I can’t imagine anyone without serious technical skills being able to use it properly.
