The reason I asked about OOP specifically is because it introduces a layer of abstraction that is relevant to this discussion.
Think of it this way: mining hardware is increasing in efficiency, right? Why?
If energy usage is all that matters, there would be no incentive to increase efficiency, and ASICs would never have been developed. But because Bitcoin cares about the hashrate - but NOT the amount of energy used to generate that hashrate - there is a layer of abstraction between Bitcoin and its energy consumption.
So Bitcoin is INDIRECTLY, but not directly, linked to its energy consumption.
