My take on this is that experiments are exceedingly hard and good data is very difficult to collect. If I said something on social media (or a talk or over lunch) that triggered someone to connect some dots and do a useful experiment, great! I can’t wait to hear about it and applaud your hard work. (You certainly don’t need to mention my name as part of that process).
I do hold a higher bar for archived theoretical work. If the idea came from a nontrivial, fleshed out theoretical piece of work, we should definitely cite.
