The room was filled with a stifling silence, broken only by the distant sound of rain outside. Each drop felt heavy, a cruel reminder of the conversation we just had.

The test results lay sprawled on the table between us, a stark white paper with black letters, an undeniable truth that could not be ignored. The diagnosis was grim, and the prognosis even grimmer. Time, once abundant, now felt like scarce.

“I can’t believe this is happening,” I muttered, eyes fixed on the horizon outside, searching for answers in the vast expanse.

“I know,” came the reply. “We were supposed to grow old together, remember? Have grandkids, see the world.”

“Why didn’t you go for the check-up sooner? Why did you ignore the symptoms?” The words were out before I could hold them back.

The reply shot back, “I thought it was nothing. Just fatigue, stress. I didn’t know it would be… this.”

Tears, grief, regret. Decisions needed to be made, treatments discussed, plans altered. The path ahead was uncertain, paved with challenges neither of us were prepared for.

“I’m scared,” the confession was whispered, almost the rain’s rhythmic patter.

“Me too,” I admitted.
