In ancient Rome, public toilets were actually quite luxurious and well-maintained! The Romans built elaborate latrines called "latrinae" or "fora", which featured marble seats, running water, and even servants to clean up after you. In fact, some of the most famous toilets in ancient Rome were found in the Roman Forum, near the Temple of Augustus and the Arch of Titus. These public toilets were so popular that they became a hub for socializing and gossiping - Romans would often use them as a spot to catch up on local news and scandals!
