Physically removing unused pins (say, like, NC pins) from a TQFP footprint: Smart or stupid?

Specifically, the 100-pin TQFP I'm dealing with has 18 pins on the left and right edges, in four groups, which serve no function, and whose removal would make routing simpler. Is editing the footprint to remove the pads for the unused pins going to cause a problem?
