What I knew, when I knew it and what I know now

First off I don't have any special knowledge on the subject. This is nothing but my opinion based on bits and pieces I've put together from everything that's already out there publicly in separate tweets, memes, group chats, replies and publicly recorded spaces. I don't intend for this to be a record of factual account just my opinion on what I've come to understand is the story. Also this will be my last post on this subject. I'd like to move on in my life and don't intend to pursue anything related to this any further.

Despite all the publicly available information I don't think anyone has summarized the series of events that led to me disclosing what I learned about @peteransel9 Tuesday evening. So I will attempt to do so as accurately as I have come to understand it. In the interest of full disclosure though, please keep in mind I can't guarantee it's all factual.

I'll start with where it started for me. Tuesday I was invited to a telegram chat with a few other Stackchainers. We were informed that Peter Ansell whom I considered a friend until then was a convicted sex offender that served 10 years out of a 10 to life term. At the time of the telegram call there were 7 people who had known for approximately 5 days at that point and a handful more that had known for a few months.

Where this started for the group of people that knew for months has been hard to put together but this is my interpretation of the events that led to that.

There was a Stackchainer that was going through a very difficult time in her life and accepted money from Peter to help with debts to the sum of approximately 16k. Here is where the story splits and I am unable to verify one version over the other so I'll share both for transparency. Keep in mind none of the parties involved have made these claims to me directly, it's all second hand from what I've read.

If you believe the story that I have been able to interpret from what people have communicated is Peters point of view, she found out about his record and extorted the money from him in exchange for keeping silent.

If you believe what people are describing is her side of the story, Peter disclosed his background after he lent her the money because doing so constituted a financial relationship which under the conditions of his release meant disclosure was required.

I don't know what's true and have no evidence favoring one story over the other and no evidence that there isn't other interpretations that I have not been made aware of. Either way, money was transferred and it seems like she became fearful to be the only one that knew. Soon after, a few others learned of the situation and decided to keep quiet out of fear for any legal and financial impacts that could befall her. How they heard it and where I have not been able to piece together and I have not heard Peter's side from him or her side from her, so they may have an entirely different story altogether.

As is the nature of information, it seeks to be free and approximately 3 months later during an online Stackchain poker game, one of the people that knew, called Peter a pedophile on a telegram call with two others listening. He didn't disclose what he knew but that little slip up triggered the other 2 to do a basic Google search of his name and his state, which we learned overtime thanks to his interactions on Stackchain to be Washington. From what I've gathered the people that googled him confronted Peter the next day after doing some research and deciding they needed to find out from him directly, if the Peter Ansell in the article and court findings was @peteransel9. Peter verified it was indeed him.

Knowing the cat was out of the bag I have been told that Peter reached out to at least 5 people personally. I was not one of the people so I can only speculate, but it seems to me to be an attempt on his part to get ahead of the story. Maybe out of loyalty, maybe out of fear, maybe out of deceitful self preservation. I don't really know. What I do know is that he called them and told them about his past but I've been told didn't disclose all dirty the details or the extent of his sexual misconduct. That part they had to look up to learn the full story of his crimes.

That group of Stackchainers then had a decision to make. The question wasn't if they should disclose but rather how they should do it and when. I wasn't a part of that chat either but I have been told it was a contentious decision to wait a few days until after Christmas and begin letting other Stackchainers know.

As soon as Christmas ended they kept their word and began disclosing what they knew. This is what led to the telegram chat I started the story with.

For the people that kept it secret regardless of the timeframe, I am not here to judge. Wether that decision was right or not is between them, their conscience and God. I am not here to persecute them or point fingers which is also why I have not named them.

If what was communicated to me is accurate then it seems to me like Peter was trying to control the narrative and was manipulative enough to know who to call to make it happen. If that was his intent then he bought himself days with the deception but ultimately the truth couldn't be bottled up for long.

At the time of the telegram chat, where I learned Peter's backstory, I was not aware that anyone knew for any period of time longer than the discovery made during the poker game. I came to the conclusion to post the news article I found immediately because I decided no amount of processing would change what happened or soften the blow. There were no words, thoughts or actions I or anyone could take in any amount of time that would change what Peter did. Not just to those children but to our friendships and community.

I decided that If I don't have the power to change the outcome then all I could do was accept the truth. Peter Ansell fooled me into believing he was a good person with nothing to hide.

As far as stackchains involvement I'd like to say that the truth of who Peter was didn't come out because someone else did their research and put it out there. Stackchainers discovered who he was and made the world aware. I think at best it can be argued it didn't happen fast enough and I think that's a fair criticism, but ultimately our community found a monster hiding amongst us all. And all the information we needed to do so was discovered because of Peter's interactions with stackchain.

Peter tied his own noose with a rope made of Twitter posts and chats exposing bits and pieces of his life until people were able to put things together. I hate to think what would have happened if he had not been so involved. He would probably still be in the bitcoin space, participating in conversations, visiting conferences, attending meetups and joining people in their homes.

With all that said I'd like to leave you all with the Stackchainer blessing Anthony created and popularized in the Twitter spaces he's worked so much on for so long and that have brought us together through good times and bad and through the depths of the bear market with positive attitudes and more bitcoin than any of us would have stacked without. "I hope you have more Bitcoin tomorrow than you do today." Take care everyone.
