Attention Beige Party-goers!
A new Mastodon release is coming on Thursday, July 4th, that includes some important security updates, so I will be upgrading the instance that same day (or early on the 5th depending where you are).
I'm also going to use this opportunity to work on rebuilding the DB indices to try to reduce the size of the database. Supposedly there's a method to do this in Postgres without locking up the database, but I want to take everything offline and make backups before I try it out for the first time.
This means that, unlike a standard upgrade, the site will be down for about half an hour while I make server snapshots.
The maintenance window will begin at 3AM UTC on July 5th and last for two hours until 5AM. For those of you in the Western Hemisphere, that's 11PM EDT on the 4th until 1AM on the 5th. The site should only be down for about 30 minutes at the beginning of that window, but please be prepared for it to go down at any point during the maintenance window, or until I give the all-clear.
