back during 2013~2015 era self-custody or running node was almost niche tech job - 90% normal crowd where hodling in CEX mainly and few in mobile thin client wallets - miniPCs or ARM mobile was not that powerful or cheap. after a decade it has improved a lot - hw cost gone down - even though chainDB approaching 1TB #flashback mainnet. nobody ever thought of it being a legal tender in some country or accepted by so many mom n pop biz .
