There are plenty of IRL and real world scenarios where we as a society navigate the personal, private, public, and so on that all happen within public spaces. This is something that gets easily lost online.

I could have a private conversation in my office with a colleague and that would be private. I could take a colleague to a coffee shop and have a conversation that other people overhear, that doesn’t give the listener the right to come to my table and comment to me directly, demand a debate, etc. It would be rude and generally society doesn’t behave that way.

In a digital public space you have a
conversation and it’s kind of open season. Tools like this are a nice way if just saying hey I am only interested in having this conversation with my friends, followers, or whatever.

The great thing about Nostr is that client apps and connections to different relays can provide experiences that might work better for different users. It doesn’t need to be one size fits all. There might be layers of the experience within one app that simply doesn’t exist on another.
