Ruto predicts further strength of shilling, drop in fuel, unga prices

President William Ruto predicts further ease in inflation as prices of food and fuel continue to stabilize. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reduced prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene. Ruto attributes the strength of the shilling and drop in fuel and unga prices to tough fiscal measures taken by his government. The value of the shilling is trading below KSh 130 against the US dollar. Ruto challenges leaders to make the right decisions and lead from the front. Inflation in Kenya has eased from 6.3% in February 2024 to 5.7% in March 2024, supported by a decrease in prices of basic food items. The Kenya shilling traded at KSh 130.39 per US dollar as of April 11. The local currency gained more to trade at 127 against the greenback on April 9.
