still think it’s crazy that hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane has been proposed as a rocket propellant. not only does it have 6 fucking nitro groups, they’re BONDED DIRECTLY TO EACH OTHER. this shit is incredibly explosive. it literally becomes more stable as a cocrystal to TNT of all things.
one small problem is that if this concoction gets a little too warm you end up with HNIW-TNT soup—and those HNIW crystals are then even less stable than the regular ones
fuel engineers are fucking madmen. i wonder how many limbs were lost while researching this stuff.
