I don’t understand why it’s a controversial holiday, July 4th didn’t mean independence for everyone in America, it’s okay to accept that. It’s our history.
Celebrating America means acknowledging the good and the bad. America is beautiful, and America is free. Celebrate both holidays, as it celebrates the core value of independence.
Don’t make it into something it’s not, which is another outlet for us as Americans to be divided.

Happy Juneteenth. It’s amazing that it’s taken this long for America to have a nationally recognized holiday to celebrate the end of Slavery. We should also remember that native Americans weren’t granted citizenship until 1924! Things are getting better and we should celebrate the progress that’s been made and the people who made it happen.
