Caves on the moon could prove the ideal place to build a lunar base, says BBC News. Scientists have known about them but new cameras have revealed their true scale: some are thought to be up to 170 metres deep and 100 metres across, and lead to cavernous underground networks. Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut says they offer the perfect foundations for a permanent structure on the moon, and thinks humans could potentially be living in lunar pits in just 20 years’ time.
