I am profligate follower. Time/attention permitting, I "view profile" many who interact with my toots, and if I see any commonality of interest in the bio (not just adult stuff but also my other passions) I'll follow.
What boggles my mind are all the profiles full of attempted rules or prohibitions. "Don't follow me if/unless..." plus hundreds of words. Yeah, no, this is social media. Your locked account gives YOU the power to screen and reject follow requests. You don't need to tell us why!
