My family knows I don’t get riled up much about most things. But tomatoes 🍅 are one of those things. The absolute trash that is peddled by grocery stores and restaurants is, I will say it, hogwash. Thick skin, crunchy, anemic pale red with blotches of hard white flesh inside, sour to dry nothing in flavor, served on a burger or in a Caprese… fuck!
The meme “you will it z bugs” it’s worse than that people, eat one of these tomatoes, it’s already worse…
The garden tomato on the other hand with a little salt - savory, sweet, and tart. You can taste the sun. Thin skin, delicate tender flesh, and juice running off the plate. You drink the juice after the tomato is gone, you literally lift the plat to your mouth and tilt your head to drink in the flavor.
It’s a fact and it’s a metaphor. Grow your own tomatoes.
Never underestimate the power of big food to turn beautiful tomatoes absolutely tasteless.
