I think about this a lot, particularly the malleability aspect. Also, what would happen to our STEM fields if the purity policies started to apply to “naturalized”citizens? Not too far of a leap in my mind. Would those citizens deemed acceptable under the new regime be capable of and willing to do all the work that is currently done by undocumented folks, naturalized” folks, and folks with permanent residency (green card)?
