Think I’m starting to understand the depths of the NGO/PhD/Academia/think-tank scam.
So many people I know are pursuing PhDs, usually in bullshit subjects or at the very least subjects for which there is no conceivable market. Why?
Why are they paying money and spending years of drudgery to get a credential, I wondered? It’s not like there’s some tenured professorship waiting for them at a prestigious college.
But now I realize they all get grants and funding from different entities who use the research to push various policy agendas. In other words, work that would never get compensated in a free market is essentially commissioned to justify expenditures from the public coffers.
And their willingness to toil for years to achieve the credential while being indoctrinated also serves as a loyalty test of sorts.
I don’t fully understand it still, but I was always like there *has* to be an explanation why so many people are doing something that otherwise makes no sense.
