30 years ago, a friend from my school days became cultishly religious. We still spoke occasionally. I told him I was getting married. As my fiancée was mildly connected to his faith, he said, "Don't do it!" and warned the marriage would not last. He said his warning was for my own good.
It was obvious he was really worried about losing her from his religious community. He even refused to come to our wedding, as it wasn't within his own creed.
His wife divorced him recently.
I'm still married.
