Some of us actually shoot rifles and do know what we're talking about. There is a big difference between a "sniper" as in a professional long distance shooter, and a rando kid who probably had shot that gun twice only in his life.

130 yards with an AR15 and a scope, which supposedly he had, shooting prone from above is a very easy shot -- if you are familiar with the gun. As a matter of fact, at those distances for sport I usually shoot iron sights.

Also, there are opinions as to why he would choose to target the head, making it harder to hit.

Some people say the shooter avoided the chest because he expected Trump to wear a vest. That would make sense if he had advice and help from agency operatives, which I think is the most likely scenario.

The second option is that he was supremely confident because he was actually very well versed and only by pure chance he missed when Trump flinched. But then, he could ha ve put the follow up shot in the chest or anywhere else, easily. Trump is a large man, and the shooter had three or four seconds before the counter snipers engaged.

I think the guy was playing a videogame in his mind. He didn't know at 130 yards you need to aim differently than at 25, which is likely what his rifle was zeroed for, and that he was trying for the head because that's what you do in games and in the movies.

Also, the counter snipers didn't spot him at first because they are... snipers. They are watching the medium and long distance, not someone as close as 130 yards which should have been detected by the cops and agents on the ground in the various perimeters.
