Before the call, first take 5 minutes to think of a funny story or an event that had some impact on you… even if it was just a birthday party or your graduation…
Then think of a time when they taught you something valuable that you have used in your life… how to drive a stick, how to change a fuse, how to sharpen a blade, etc…
Then call them and ask how their day has been, ask how their health is, and then tell them the first story. Ask them to share a memory they have of you together… listen attentively…
Then thank them and tell them how much you appreciate them sharing their knowledge and experience with you, and tell them how you remember what they taught you, and how it helped you.
