Yeah I have a few pens I'll use as everyday carry pens. I've got some Lamy Al-Stars I use all the time.
Most modern fountain pens seem to have pretty good sealing so I don't think leaking is a big issue, especially if you're buying quality pens. I'm sure it could happen but I wouldn't be too worried about it.
You could get several pens within the $10-$60 range that would work really well as everyday pens. I think of them as investments more than a purchase. If you take care of them then they can last you your entire life.
Plus there's a joy in having not "a pen" but having "your pen."
