Yes, life expectancy is skewed by the reduction in infant mortality but it is not the only factor. Improvement in life expectancy are seen across all age.

Cancer and heart diseases affect disproportionately people over 50 years. The increase in the incidence of these diseases may not only be down to life expectancy but it is for sure a significant factor. For sure diet has also an influence - my wild guess is less so than the increase in life expectancy.
