Well the not fun answer that nobody wants to hear is, a few years of having braces in my 30s lol. In the first phase, it grows your mid-face forward, I think for me it was about a centimeter. It also expands your pallet laterally as well. For every millimeter that your mid-face grows forward, your airway actually opens up several millimeters. After the first 6 months, there was a drastic improvement in how often my throat would close up at night.
In the second phase, the back teeth are then pulled forward to close the gap you have just created. Throughout the process, your jaw slowly decompresses and swings forward to find a bite equilibrium with your upper teeth. Acrylic pads are used on your back teeth, so that when you are clenching at night, your jaw slides forward rather than locking in.
There are some alternatives to this that would take a lot more effort and conviction, but I don’t know much about them. You should check out that book. I actually came across it when the author went on Joe Rogan, after I had already started the treatment, and it validated to me that I had made the right choice.
