Yeah French explorers cleared a lot of them but there are still huge swaths of spiritual wilderness left. The Spanish barely touched most of South America's and there's been a lot of migration, too. Shit like the Mississippi Monster (not a Sasquatch, nigga was white with red eyes and had a horrible stench like sulfur and death) along the border between Missouri and Illinois and terrorizing small towns in the late 60s.
