I don't think it's right for anyone to say they "need" to do anything in particular. It's a free market. If you like what they do, and/or trust their judgment, then donate through them, as a convenience. If not, find a way to donate directly to the dev(s) of your choice. I'm sure ODELL (npub1qny…95gx) would endorse this sentiment.

OpenSats (npub10pe…n34f) and ODELL (npub1qny…95gx) need to be 100% transparent with the public about the terms of their grants and the process of selection and approval. If there is anything unknown about it, it needs to be known and made public. And if there are any closed door back room decisions being made that aren't disclosed, then anyone donating them ought to stop.
