Humanity has wanted such a ledger for a long time, and Bitcoin has shown that it is possible.
After seeing the success of Bitcoin, a lot of people started to imagine what else could be done with this blockchain besides money.
This led to the creation of a number of altcoins.
I think the reason most altcoins eventually fail (and will eventually fail) is because they are not (and will never be) fully decentralized.
Once some people realized this, they started to think, "Well, why not join the Bitcoin network, play by its rules, and use the Bitcoin blockchain ledger for other purposes?" and Ordinals and utility tokens like BRC20 started to be created.
The recently launched https://msgonbtc.site is a similar project.
Are these attempts to extend the functionality of Bitcoin and add value to Bitcoin, or are they projects that go against the original purpose of Bitcoin and undermine the original value of Bitcoin (p2p payments)?
