What do you mean by maintain follower count? That it is consistent across multiple clients?
Cleaning up I think will involve paid relays in the short term. Then mid term I can see it evolving into a trust/score based system like this: https://member.cash/a/804fc6e860
Another option is if relays charge a really low number of sats to post.
Are the notes you make really important to keep or a nice to have? If important, perhaps a very low powered private relay that you add to your list would suffice? Or something like https://nostrgraph.net/archive
I'm enjoying the evolution of the platform at the moment but I think we need to think differently as it's our data running on volunteers systems rather than big corp. Sooner or later we're going to have to pay a little. This will be the hard part to swallow after so many years of 'free' things.
