When we talk about repeating the atrocities and mistakes of the past there is no more parallel way than any attempt to “purify the blood of the country” through a systematic removal of noncitizens. Such a project would also offer ample opportunities to disappear and subjugate inconvenient “citizens” — citizenship being a mailable thing, one that could be redefined to require loyalty to the overall cause.

But again the US depends on the labor of noncitizens to function— so could it happen? 2/2
