This is not a universal maxim, but as a general rule, I find that the amount of time I spend negotiating over the details of an agreement on behalf of a client (especially where the other party to the agreement is the one begin difficult) is inversely proportional to the amount of value the client will receive from being a party to the agreement. Good for the lawyers I guess but I still feel bad when it happens.
