I’ve paid more in fees for lightning than on chain. I paid something like $15 to Phoenix once because I needed more liquidity and it didn’t even warn me that it was going to take my money. I wouldn’t have done it if I knew. I also don’t actually need all of my lightning payments to go through instantly. It would be nice to set my fee rate for adding lightning liquidity. I don’t know why none of the lightning wallets give you the option to set the fee rate for on chain swaps. My funds on mutiny had their lighting channel close but since I barely use lightning, I haven’t reopened the channel. Hope that feedback helps.
