no private employer in the States is required to give you holidays, vacation, sick pay, etc. about the only thing they can't fire you for is giving birth to a baby, as long as you come back within 6 weeks of the day you left. They certainly aren't required to pay you while you are are out.

some companies do offer some vacation in hopes of recruiting or retaining talent.

For professionals on salary average in the States is like 2 weeks (10 days) of vacation that you can use for anything (such as your kids are sick and you can't find a sitter, you have to go to the doctor, take a trip to Disneyland,or to attend a friend's funeral) & 10 fixed holidays. The holidays a private employer will give workers off, like the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve) don't usually align with federal holidays like Columbus Day or June Teenth. Every year my neighbors get mad they don't get mail on Columbus Day and can never remember why.

Most non-union hourly employees get no paid vacation or holidays, and often get smaller paychecks in months like December when the employer decides to close for a day or more for the Holidays L.

I have a good paying engineer job with a major automotive company. I get laid off for two weeks (12/18 - 1/2), but they give me pay for 12/25 & 1/1 which makes me then ineligible to file for unemployment insurance. They do let me make up time if I'm out of the office less than 4 hours at a time (like if I need 2 hours for a doctor appointment on a Tuesday I can avoid wasting my vacation by working 2 hours extra on the preceding Monday.

Most non-union hourly employees don't have such a luxury and would have to take a day off for events like that. Last time I checked union membership in the States was < 10% of workers.

I used to work for a French company any they always complained that Americans never worked because we'd go home at 5pm everyday, but then they'd take the whole month of August off like that's normal.
